Our Story

Restoring Smiles began in 1999 with a simple yet powerful vision: to move children and young people from poverty to livelihood. What started as a small initiative in Mumbai has grown into one of India's most impactful youth development organizations, reaching millions across the country.

Our journey began when our founder, Matthew Spacie, witnessed the stark inequalities in education and opportunity while working in India. Determined to make a difference, he started Restoring Smiles with the belief that every child deserves access to quality education, life skills, and the chance to build a sustainable future.

From humble beginnings with just a few children in Mumbai's slums, we have expanded our reach to 22 states and union territories, developing innovative programs that address the root causes of poverty and create lasting change in communities across India.

The Beginning

Restoring Smiles was founded by Matthew Spacie in Mumbai with a vision to transform lives through education and empowerment.

2005

First Expansion

Expanded operations beyond Mumbai, reaching children in rural Maharashtra and establishing our first state partnerships.

Early Intervention & Foundation Building

We start early, working with children from age 6 to build foundational skills, prevent dropout from the education system, and establish strong learning habits. Our programs focus on literacy, numeracy, and basic life skills that form the cornerstone of future success.

Ages 6-14 Foundation Skills

Adolescent Development & Life Skills
